Best Yoga & Wellness Retreat in Rishikesh, India for Australians

If you’re flying in from Australia, chances are you’ve already pictured it — mornings by the Ganga, the Himalayas sitting quietly in the background and a pace of life that’s a world away from home. That’s genuinely what a stay at Neeraj Ganga Rajmahal looks like.

We’re a yoga and wellness retreat in Rishikesh India, set in the city where yoga actually began, not a rebranded version of it built for tourists. Here, you’ll practise yoga daily, receive proper Ayurvedic care and stay right on the riverbank in rooms designed with real comfort in mind — think private bathrooms and air conditioning, not shared dorms. We’ve built our packages with flexibility in mind too so whether you’ve got five days to spare or ten, there’s a program that fits your trip from Australia without feeling rushed.

Best Luxury Wellness Retreat Resort in India

01

Authentic Yoga & Ayurveda

Rishikesh isn't a destination that adopted yoga to attract wellness tourism. In fact, it's where the practice originated and where Ayurveda has been taught with tradition for centuries. Everything you'll experience here traces back to that same lineage.

02

Stay on the Banks of the Ganga

Our property sits directly on the river so the sound of flowing water becomes part of your daily rhythm. Rooms are set up for genuine comfort with a peaceful, unhurried environment throughout the grounds.

03

Wellness Included Daily

Yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic wellness therapies are part of every single day of your stay, not optional extras you need to book separately.

04

Transparent Pricing

All our packages are priced clearly in USD for international guests with everything listed upfront — no surprise charges once you arrive.

05

Boutique Retreat Experience

This isn't a large resort with hundreds of guests moving through it. We keep numbers small so you get individual attention and a genuinely personal experience throughout your stay.

06

Stress-Free Arrival

From airport pickup to your first meal, our wellness team takes care of the logistics so you can focus on actually settling in.

Rishikesh Wellness Retreat
Rishikesh, India
WHY RISHIKESH

Why Australian Travelers Choose Our Retreat

Most wellness options in India tend to fall into one of two camps — bare-bones ashrams with shared rooms and a fairly strict routine or high-end luxury resorts where yoga is more of a backdrop than the actual focus. We sit somewhere in between and for a lot of Australian travellers, that middle ground is exactly what they're after: something authentic without giving up basic comfort and genuinely straightforward to book and plan from the other side of the world.

Authenticity

01

Rishikesh has been a centre for yoga and Ayurveda for generations and that heritage shapes everything about how we run the retreat. You're not getting a diluted, Western-style wellness package — it's a genuinely traditional environment, just made easy to step into.

Comfort

02

Private rooms, air conditioning and attached bathrooms are standard here, along with views over the Ganga. For international travellers used to certain comforts, that makes a real difference compared to the shared, more basic setups found at many traditional ashrams.

Value

03

You get a premium experience — proper consultations, quality accommodation, transparent pricing — without paying the kind of rates charged by ultra-luxury wellness resorts. Everything is laid out clearly in USD before you book so there's nothing to guess at.

Why Rishikesh?

Rishikesh sits where the Himalayas meet the plains, right along the Ganga as it leaves the mountains. It’s held a spiritual and wellness identity for thousands of years, long before “retreat” became a travel category — this is where yoga is generally considered to have originated and meditation has been practised here for generations. The atmosphere reflects that history. Temple bells, quiet ghats and a slower pace all come together to make it genuinely easy to switch off from daily life. It’s a setting that does a lot of the work for you when it comes to actually settling into a wellness retreat, rather than just visiting one.

Who Is This Retreat For?

Travelling to India for a wellness break can feel like a big step, especially the first time. This retreat was designed to make that step easier — giving you an authentic experience without leaving you to figure everything out on your own. It tends to suit a fairly wide range of Australian travellers, for slightly different reasons.

01

First-Time Visitors to India

With pickup, accommodation and your daily schedule already arranged, it's a genuinely manageable way to experience India for the first time, without the usual logistics to sort out yourself.

02

Solo Travellers

Coming alone, including women travelling by themselves, is common here and the retreat's small size and structured daily routine make it easy to settle in without needing to know anyone beforehand.

03

Detox & Wellness Seekers

If you're after a proper reset — daily yoga, Ayurvedic therapies and a more mindful routine — this retreat is built around exactly that, though it's best approached as a wellness experience rather than a medical treatment.

04

Couples & Friends

Shared experiences like the Ganga Aarti and communal meals bring you together, while individual treatment slots still leave room for your own space during the day.

05

Value-Conscious Wellness Travellers

With transparent USD pricing and everything from meals to therapies included upfront, you know exactly what you're paying for before you arrive.

YOUR JOURNEY TO INDIA

Planning Your Trip from Australia

Getting from Australia to Rishikesh involves a couple of connections but it's a well-worn route and easy enough to plan once you know the basics. Here's what to keep in mind before you book.

01

How to Get Here

Most Australian travellers fly into Delhi first, before connecting onward to Dehradun, the airport closest to Rishikesh. From there, it's a private transfer of around 45 minutes to the retreat which we can arrange for you. Flight routes and schedules do change from time to time so it's worth checking current options with your airline or travel agent closer to your travel dates rather than relying on a fixed route.

02

Visa

Australian citizens need a valid Indian visa to enter the country and the e-Visa is generally the most straightforward option for eligible travellers. It's applied for online, ahead of your trip, through the official Indian government visa portal. Since fees and requirements can change, we'd always recommend checking the current details before you book your flights.

03

Best Time to Visit

October through March tends to offer the most comfortable weather for yoga sessions, outdoor time and walks along the river. This window also lines up nicely with the Australian summer and holiday period so it's worth planning ahead if you're hoping to travel over December or January, as demand tends to pick up around then.

04

Time Zone & Jet Lag

India Standard Time sits ahead of Australia, though by how much depends on which state you're travelling from and whether daylight saving is in effect back home — the gap for Sydney or Melbourne isn't the same as it is for Western Australia so it's worth checking the exact difference for your dates before you travel. A few simple habits help either way: get some daylight soon after you land, keep your fluids up during the flight and try to avoid long naps on your first day.

05

What to Pack

Keep it practical: breathable clothing and modest yoga wear cover most of what you'll need day to day. A light jacket or shawl is worth bringing for cooler evenings, along with comfortable walking shoes for uneven ground near the river and ghats. Don't forget any personal medicines you take regularly and make sure your passport and travel documents, including your visa, are sorted well before you fly.

Guided by Certified Ayurvedic Practitioners

Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner

Every guest begins their stay with a one-to-one consultation with our certified Ayurvedic practitioner. It's a proper conversation, not a formality — the practitioner reviews your health background, talks through what you're hoping to get from your time here and puts together a treatment plan built around you specifically. That personal guidance carries through the rest of your stay so any therapies you receive are tied back to that original consultation rather than a generic routine.
